A New Knee For Me! A Little Gift For You!
Well, tomorrow I will have knee replacement surgery…Ugh!
I imagine that I will not post any blogs for a few days…I’ll see about that.
After a few days, I will have lots of time to read and write and I hope to work more diligently upon a book that I hope to finish—before I am finished. ; – )
Also, I bought a pretty little ukulele so I can amuse myself and learn a fun new skill while I am laid-up.
I hope you will like my favorite ukulele performance: It is simply wonderful. The artist, named Iz, has inspired me to take up the ukulele….and to also stay on my diet.
Please enjoy!

I’m extremely impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Anyway keep up the nice quality writing, it is rare to see a nice blog like this one today.

Thank you Elisabeth,
I confess that I had it professionally done for me. I described the theme I wished to see, they produced it for me and I really liked it. Thanks for the kind remarks about my writing. At 71 yrs. I am still working on my spelling and proof reading. In another 71 years I might get it right. Please tell your family and friends to visit my blog, but my views may irritate some, so caution is advised!
Warm Regards,

First of all I want to say great blog! I had a quick question which
I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested
to find out how you center yourself and clear your head before writing.
I have had a tough time clearing my mind in getting my ideas out.
I truly do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually wasted just trying to figure out
how to begin. Any recommendations or tips? Kudos!

Thank you for your kind words. I think that writing is like any other skill. The more you do it, the better you get. We may never be the best, but paying attention to the fine writing of others and noting why we think it is so good is a very natural way to refine our own skills. Reading a great deal of work by excellent professional writers is another component to improving your own skills. It really is a matter of “do, do, do, don’t stew, stew, stew” (to quote Albert Ellis).
I suspect that the more you practice, the shorter the warm-up period of 10 to 15 minutes will become. But what the heck, there should be somewhat of a warm-up period when making love. Doing what you love to do in writing may be somewhat the same thing. If you like to write and it makes you feel good, I hope you will keep it up and not be discouraged. Let your warm-ups be a pleasant learning experience.
Sometimes, the act of facing a blank page is an exercise in “discovering” what it is you have to say about things. It can take time and lots of editing, very naturally.
Embrace it, we’re all different and we will approach our writing differently.
Best wishes to you and good luck! Tom Mawhinney

I too am a fan of IZ who tragically had his life cut short due to his eating disorder and resulting health problems. I would like to see some things about eating disorders since Feb. is Eating Disorder month.

Beloved Sister Jana, I will be happy to discuss the matter of eating disorders at some point this month. Given my on- and-off levels of moderate pain and the fog inducing pain medications I take to stay comfortable following my knee replacement, I find that my compulsion for the analysis of abstract matters has been significantly impaired. As soon as this uncontrollable personality deviation towards normality moderates, I hope to be “back on the job”!
Thanks for the great suggestion!
Love, Tom
