San Francisco: Poop Patrols!

March 1, 2019

Radical Liberalism/Socialism = “Poop Patrols”!

I visited San Francisco, to attend a convention, just as it was beginning to fall apart. People were living on the side-streets in refrigerator boxes and other flimsy cardboard homes by the hundreds. Schizophrenics and aggressive panhandlers were wandering the streets, raving at pedestrians and aggressively accosting them for money.

When I returned years later, to attend another convention, it was palpably worse. While walking from my hotel, in the upscale heart of the city, I was repeatedly accosted for money, closely followed and screamed-at while walking the several blocks to the convention hall.

I was younger, large and still somewhat athletic. Although am a peaceable man, I was made tense and somewhat anxious by the aggressive, dirty, profane, and aggressive street people. I actually felt the need to be ready to “deck” someone in the event that I was attacked.

San Franscisco, the “Jewel of the West” had been transformed by radical liberals and socialists into a cesspool antisocial and psychotic behavior steeped in the stultifying fragrance of urine and feces.

See the following video.

This is only a sample of the many horrors that radical liberalism/socialism is bringing to America.

As much as I love the location, weather and topography of San Francisco,. I choose to never return.

If you are a young liberal/socialist American, I advise that you go San Francisco in order to understand that there is a great difference between our Founding Father’s definition of personal freedom and social chaos….Francisco style.

Reality Therapy with Dr. Tom: Bad Cops

April 16, 2018

Reality Therapy with Dr. Tom: Bad Cops.

America! It’s time for a little more of Dr. Tom’s reality therapy.

These special blogs are designed for those who are still living in a fantasy world.

Look-out, you could be one of them and not even know it!

The mass of wonderful (but fantasy-world) citizens consists of a great many of those patriots who were raised in traditional, religious or semi-religious, conservative or moderately conservative families. In some cases it will even include patriotic citizens, from various backgrounds, who consider themselves to be “traditional” or “classical” liberals.

Here is your wake-up call! It is way past-time to perceive the cultural ravages of hyper-liberalism in America and elsewhere in the world. Therefore, it is now my sad duty to rub your noses in the delayed consequences of your slumber in fantasy land.

I promise that I do this out of pure love and kind thoughts for you, your loved ones and the future of America.

You may, understandably, get upset with me for exposing you to the truth. If you do you will be illustrating some perfectly human fundamental psychological errors: They are the denial of a threatening reality and displaced aggression. These are common defenses against anxiety, worry, fear and anger that we all must learn to  manage effectively.

Wake-Up America! Be rational: Put your anxiety, worry, fear, and anger where it belongs.

Focus these defensive emotions upon the hyper-liberal, anti-American political philosophy (progressivism/socialism) and its political practitioners: Vote the purveyors of America’s demise out of office and do not let them back in.

Here is a message about a reality, soon to become your personal nightmare if America’s police officers continue to be vilified by political forces bent on the destruction of our lawful  society.

Extremes Of Cultural Destruction: “Progressive” Liberalism vs. Islam

Extremes Of Cultural Destruction: “Progressive” Liberalism vs. Islam

The following is an elaboration of my answer to one of my readers who noted the parallel between “progressive” liberals loving the beauty of Colorado and then moving there to remake it into their own brand of social and political pathology… and agents of Islam doing the same thing around the world.

I had not thought about the similarities of Liberals remaking the cultures they infiltrate and Islamic Stealth Jihad that is incrementally transforming the World to Islam and Sharia Law. It is not so hard to grasp the implications of any military take-over, but the incremental long-term effects of stealth liberalism and Islamic Jihad are harder to perceive and defend against.

There is nothing new about a particular culture admiring the physical habitat of another and then invading it to gain social and political control within that new domain. They may also gain hegemony in the new culture by generating disproportionately higher birth-rates than the original population, inbreeding, and aggressive recruitment.

In these ways the new culture may transform the older culture and eventually impose their own alien values (political system, laws, more’s and folkways) upon the indigenous culture. The new culture transforms the old one into their own, or perhaps some new hybrid of the of the two cultures.

This transformational process has been in play since the beginning of living time. It has occurred at all levels of biological existence, in all ecosystems. For our purposes, I will call this manifestation of Natural Selection, Cultural Evolution.

Though it is a natural phenomenon, this no reason not to defend against such alien transformations…particularly when it will lead to either behavioral chaos (Colorado) or totalitarianism (Islamic Sharia Law).

Although “Progressive”-Liberal and Islamic Sharia political/social designs are at polar ends of the behavioral-outcomes continuum. They are equally destructive (though in different ways) to the quality of the cultural organism they pathologically infect.

Take your pick: “progressive”-liberal social and political chaos and decline. Or, totalitarian social and political rigamortise and decline.

The healthy culture, committed to living long and well, should defend to-the-death against either of these cultural design extremes.

P.S., Thanks to Tom Jacobs for commenting on one of my blogs and stimulating my thinking about these cultural evolutionary dynamics.

Rewarding Dependent Behavior and America’s Decline

Rewarding Dependent Behavior and America’s Decline

A search of the internet will find many “Do Not Feed The Animals!” signs.

Some signs will even go beyond this simple command and provide the reasons why it is bad to feed the animals: “It will make them dependent”; “because they get dependent on handouts and stop fending for themselves”; and “Bears, alligators, and other animals can get aggressive even after one food reward”.

It should come as no surprise that animals will get dependent upon the hand that feeds them. So why should it be any different for human humans?

In the case above, not only is dependent behavior being directly rewarded, but something more subtle is also operational.  Psychology’s Matching law predicts that when two or more schedules of rewards are available, but cannot be responded to at the same time, the rate of responding on each schedule tends to nearly match the rate of rewards available on each schedule.

The Matching Law has been used to explain foraging patterns of animals in the wild. I will grant you that it is an imperfect extrapolation from these studies of animals in the wild to human animals responding to welfare opportunities rather than market labor opportunities. But something very similar ordinarily  happens within populations of sociocultures.

Ease, effort, convenience, and certainty-of -reward for work done all play into the human behavior patterns. For example, I live in a wooded area and a very large oak tree is threatening to fall on the corner of my home. The “tree surgeon” came to estimate the cost or removing this tree shortly after a major storm knocked down many trees in my area.

After a short inspection he stated that he would prefer not to take the tree down because it would be very difficult to get to in our back yard and it was a very large and challenging tree to manage. He kindly and apologetically said: “its like going into the farm yard to pick a chicken for dinner and they all have two legs except one”. He asked, with a smile, “which one ya gonna pic?!” The law of least effort was wonderfully illustrated in this simple statement and so were the mechanisms of natural selection and the “survival of the fittest”!

The tree is still standing, leaving my gene pool in the cross hairs of the mechanisms of natural selection! I must now resist the seductive attraction of the law of least effort.

We need to discuss the interesting warning about aggression that a minority of such signs provide.

Psychological research has demonstrated a strong tendency of animals to lash-out and become aggressive when they experience frustration and/or pain. This will not happen with every human animal.  But the probability of elicited aggression is greatly increased within a population under these conditions.

Also,  psychological research has demonstrated that animals accustomed to being very frequently rewarded for some behavior (technically called “continuous reinforcement”, CRF, or a “thick schedule”) are very likely to become aggressive when the rewards are stopped suddenly. This is called extinction-produced aggression or, when frustration and anger result without aggression, it is called extinction-produced emotional behavior.

Perhaps you will recognize the behavioral/cultural corollaries in the recent population rioting in Great Britain, France and Greece.

These societies have incrementally increased welfare “entitlements” (rewards for doing very little) to more and more citizens until the tax payers can no longer afford them. When cuts to these entitlements must finally be made, due to a growing dependent population, we normally see characteristic extinction-produced emotional and aggressive behaviors within that population in the form or rioting.

A volcano of riotous social chaos is building in America and it may already too late to stop our bad social/political welfare and entitlement policies that feed it.

Wake-up America and Vote the Progressive-Socialists in both parties out-of-office!

A Universal Code of Moral Behavior (UCMB)

January 31, 2011

A Universal Code of Moral Behavior (UCMB)

I will soon present a Universal Code of Moral Behavior (UCMB) as  my humble attempt to identify useful old and new prescriptions for evolving sociocultures that wish to avoid the chaos of rising levels of bad behavior within their populations and therefore their collective decline.

I have partitioned this code in several ways. The first section is entitled, Love, Honor, and Do. This section is one in which prescriptions are stated in terms of behaviors to do. People of faith may wish to read many of these prescriptions (taken from religious materials) as Commandments to be obeyed for the love and/or fear of God.

Those with  more secular belief systems may prefer to see the prescriptions as logical rule statements for seeking happiness and avoiding pain during life on this planet. In this case, they may wish to read each one of these prescriptions as though it stated, “You will be wise to”— in front of it.

Those with a scientific perspective should look upon the following prescriptions as rule statements to be validated through further investigation and analysis.

There is actually no reason why any one individual could not view various prescriptions within the UCMB from a singular or combined perspective of any of the three listed above: God’s Rules, wise rules, and/or rules to be tested.

The three remaining classes of prescriptions are designed to cover most human interactions within their social and physical environments. They are:  Do Not Harm Others; Do Not Harm Yourself; and Never Harm Children. Some may not like that these sections are stated in the form of negative prescriptions ( i.e., Do Not) . However, in the UCMB, as in teaching children and adolescents what to do to achieve rewarding outcomes and avoid painful ones, positive prescriptions by themselves can sometimes lack important specificity.

For example, parents in Florida picnicking at an inland lake may tell their children to “only play on the beach”. But this prescription would be inadequate if they did not also add: “Don’t go in the water or an alligator might eat you”.

The parent of an adolescent might enjoin their adolescent to drive the speed limit, stop at stop streets and stop lights, to watch for pedestrians, etc. But they would best be admonished; “Do not ride with someone who has been drinking. There may be death or serious injury to yourselves or others”. In most cases similar admonishments the parent’s  own teen about his or her drinking and driving would also be in order.

As an adult on my sail boat with a gasoline engine, the rule “turn on the blower before you start your engine” was made much stronger by a negative statement: “Don’t start your engine before your blower or you’ll blow yourself to smiterines”.

As a Navy diver, using an Aqualung, I was trained to “breath normally as you swim to the surface”. This rule was very importantly augmented by another: “Don’t hold your breath when you swim to the surface or you will blow your lungs up and die”.

I am certain that you can provide other examples of positive rule statements that are best augmented by negative statements. There are other times when a negative rule statement implying a very unpleasant natural consequence for breaking the rule  will provide the shortest, most specific, most memorable, and most effective rule: I.e., “Don’t play with fire”.

The following UCMB prescriptions each imply their own positive and negative consequences. . Complex environments appear to  require greater complexity to their moral codes. The UCMB  is lengthy and including the all of the anticipated consequences for following or breaking a rule would make very long indeed. The teaching of this, or another moral code, would seem best to be approached in modules, with the various implied consequences depending upon the age and maturity of the learner fully discussed, illustrated, and  referenced.   Whenever possible moral prescriptions should be referenced to scientific support.

To increase the probability of moral behavior within a population, a code similar to the following UCMB should be taught and encouraged in all sociocultural venues possible.

The outcome would promise great goods. Great likely harms (concerns for unintended consequences noted) are seem doubtful.

Stay tuned for the UCMB.

Wake-Up America!
