Happy Birthday: To Me!

Happy Birthday: To Me!

I do not normally write about me, but today will be an exception.

I am happy and very grateful to have made it to my 77th, birthday, today.

So on this day I say to all, the Entropy Law best describes my state of being, both physically and mentally!

But don’t get me wrong; I am not complaining. I have resolved, as best I can, to be happy each day that my feet “hit the deck” in the morning.

I don’t know anyone who has made it out of this world without some bad, even tragic, things happening to them. I am no exception. My dear son, Sean Thomas Mawhinney, suddenly passed due to an aneurysm at 47 years of age, almost three years ago.

Of course, there has been the sad loss of many of my other of loved ones. And, there is more sadness to come, as long as I continue to ride this limited conveyor-belt of life.

It can be work to push back sadness in order to be happy and grateful for all the good years and good, even wonderful, people and things that come and go from our lives. But, after an interval of normal mourning, pushing back the sadness is good work that should be done.

It certainly helps this task to focus sharply upon the many things we should be grateful for.

I have read that most fertilized human eggs never make it to embed in their mother’s uterus. Still more never make it to the outside world, let alone, out in sound and good working order.

So, I am grateful that I have been blessed with good size and strength, a little athleticism , reasonably good health, a dollop of emotional stability, and wonderful grandparents, parents, siblings, other family members and friends.

I have had a wonderful, wonderful wife, Sally, as well as her marvelous family, and loving children and grandchildren.

It may sound odd, but I must not forget our many cats, dogs, and other creatures I have had the joy to have in my life.

It was an honor to serve this nation during AMERICA’S victorious conflict with the USSR, named “The Cold War”. I served with some of the finest people this nation had produced at that time…They were U.S. Navy Submariners.

I have had good work, good people to work with and I have lived comfortably.

And to top it all off…I was born in, and will have lived my whole life in the United States of America. All of this during what might have been the best times of this great nation!

Only a fool could complain….no matter what the future may now hold!

I wish an abundance of God’s similar Blessings to you and your loved ones.

Our Son: A Sweet Memory

Our Son: A Sweet Memory

Our 46-year-old son, Sean, died suddenly of an apparent abdominal aortic aneurysm.

We have lost a wonderful son who we loved with all of our hearts. His three children lost a loving, close and faithful father. His many friends lost a fun, caring and loyal companion.

Sean will continue to live in our beloved grandchildren and all the members of his family, as well as his friends, in countless ways.

Though we taught him many things in his childhood, he has also taught all of us a great many important lessons during his adult life. What we learned from Sean lives in our thoughts and actions daily.

We will watch the mild-to-wild weather and the greening of spring with all of its new foliage, plants and animals that he loved so very much. It feels as though we are experiencing this primal explosion and celebration of life through all of Sean’s own keen senses.

We will try to experience all of the good things in nature and the world with the same deep respect and pleasure that he always did.

Just as he did, we will try our best to be good to good people: no matter their station in life, race or their creed.

We will try to be strong in the face of wrong and to defend what is right; to support the traditional values of God, Country, justice and hard work that once propelled America to unparalleled greatness.

We will try to be strong in the face of loss, pain, adversity, and the uncertainties of life, as he was.

Most of all, like Sean, we will always celebrate our  good times, triumphs and victories in life with good cheer and laughter…and we will do this with high spirits and great gusto!

Sean, who remains in us all, will continue to celebrate all of the good things in life through his children and his many loved ones.

We still see him everywhere we go.

From all of us who love Sean Thomas Mawhinney.

Our Wonderful Son Has Passed

April 21, 2016

Our Wonderful Son Has Passed

Our beloved son, Sean Thomas, passed away on Friday April 15. He suffered an abdominal aneurysm and was gone in a matter of seconds.

Sean’s three children were with him when he passed away and the shock and trauma of it is now settling down, somewhat, for them and us. We are so relieved to know that he did not suffer badly in his passing.

Our own great sadness will diminish in time, but we know there will always be transient sadness’s that will come to visit us.

My dear mother sometimes warned me that “life is not a bowl of cherries”. She also taught that life was sometimes “unfair”. Of course, my mother was telling me the truth…as always.

As you can tell from the following, we were so very proud of our Sean and we loved him more than we can express.

We hope you will remember that your friends and loved one’s can be gone in a blink of the eye, when you least expect it.  We hope you will show and express your love to them at every opportunity.

God’s Blessings to you and all who you love.

Sean Thomas Mawhinney, 46, of South Bend, IN passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016 in his home surrounded by his children. Sean was a proud Graduate of Ball State University and was a successful business manager and sales associate with an industrial supply company.

Most of all, Sean was dedicated to God, his three children, his family and many friends. Sean loved people and he continuously demonstrated this with words and actions. A person’s race, creed, age, education or wealth did not matter. If someone was a good person, with a “good heart”, they could be his friend. He loved to laugh with everyone. He enjoyed Seinfeld, “Survivor”, history, and all genres of music (particularly the “Grateful Dead”).

Sean was big, strong, intellectually curious and persuasive. He would defend right against wrong when necessary. He was soft-hearted and caring to those in need. Sean loved all sports, especially Notre Dame Football and he was a tough guard on the Adams high school football team. He loved golf, sailing, fishing, campfires, going “Up-North”, birds and their songs, snakes, pollywogs, crayfish—nearly all of God’s creatures. He literally would not hurt a fly.

Sean’s greatest gift to all of us was his and Lori’s three wonderful children, Kelin, Camren and Macey; they were the main focus of his life. He is now with God, and continues to live through his children, loved ones and friends. Our Sean would tell you, “it’s all good”.

Below is a photograph of our Sean happily waving the peace-sign from our Sally Louise; close on the wind and moving swiftly.

Fare you well, our beloved Son.
