The Nature of American Conservatism #4

This series of blogs is based upon William Bennett and John Cribb’s new book, America the Strong: Conservative Ideas to Spark the Next Generation.

They suggest that the key features of Conservatism are easily remembered using the acronym “FLINT”. This word stands for:

F=Free Enterprise

L=Limited Government

I=Individual Liberty

N=National Defense

T=Traditional Values

“I” stands for individual liberty, one of the main and defining features of the United States of America.

Many of today’s American youth appear to think in shallow ways about their own “personal freedom”. From all that I can tell, in their lexicon, freedom simply means their own ability to do whatever they want to do, when they want to do it and as often as they want to do it.

What they fail to understand is that they will never be free from the consequences of their actions; to themselves, their loved ones, or to the historically robust (but now fragile) socioculture in which they live.

Judging from various interviews of America’s college students and young adults, easily viewed on the internet and in other media, freedom to a growing percent of our youth is hedonistic or libertine in nature. They revel in legalized or illegal drugs (marijuana and more), alcohol abuse, profanity, pornography, gambling, nudity, infidelity in relationships, free sex, free birth control, free college and free medicine, etc.. In other words…freedom from all restraints upon their behaviors and expected freedom from personal responsibility.

Of course, there are those who sneer at such characterizations of America’s youth, noting that similar statements were made about “the youth” in other formerly great ancient civilizations. This is to imply that old fuddy-duddys have always grumbled about the care-free activities of the youthful.

However, my studies inform me the failure to acculturate its youth is powerful symptom of sociocultures in decline.

In America the traditional concept of individual liberty was, and still should be, a far more mature, nuanced, and self-restrained conception of ” personal freedom”.

The liberties, guaranteed by our Constitution are freedoms from  governmental control of certain citizen’s and State’s actions and abilities, judged essential by our Founders to the common good of our society. More specifically, those behavioral freedoms that tend to promote economic growth, mental/behavioral/emotional health and productivity, the democratic processes, and the viability and survival of our great Union of States.

It is important to review these guaranteed rights which were enumerated in our Constitution’s Bill of Rights ratified by our Founding Fathers. There are only 10 listed, but these and all other protected freedoms within the Constitution were considered to be precious gifts bestowed upon all people by God.

These rights have little to do with the popular conception of “personal freedom”…or the right to “do whatever one wishes to do”.

See for yourself.

http://www.ratical.org/co-globalize/BillOfRights.html

Outside of the laws-of-the-land (predicated largely upon God’s Natural Laws), the matter of personal social conduct was left to the influence of the morals and values (also mores and folkways) of families, towns and regions.

America is facing many major problems at this time. For now, I will restrict my concerns to only two. Both relate directly to Liberty in America.

First, our Constitutional Republic cannot stand without our Government’s conformity to our Constitution and its Bill of Rights.

James Madison warned us:

“‘I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurptations,'”  (Kindle Loc. 1531).

Over the last hundred years, and more, the Federal government has gained increasing control over State’s Rights and our individual liberties. This process has accelerated greatly with the growth of our socialist/progressive Federal government. This trend has culminated in the current Obama administration’s admitted and obvious dedication to the deconstruction of America’s Constitutional government.

Secondly, beneath these dangers to the existence of a healthy and viable America lies the tragic loss of our moral and ethical personal restraints. These personal restraints were based upon the Natural Laws that have traditionally been codified and taught to us by America’s religious institutions an woven deeply into our social and political fabric. These are the natural personal self-restraints essential to the survival of any democracy-based Representative Constitutional Republic.

Not only has the modern American Federal Government incrementally infringed upon our personal liberties, it has perpetrated a great fraud upon us with its recent “discovery” of the principle of “Separation of Church and State”. With this our government has destroyed the main source of our moral virtues, driven religious influences out of our public places and institutions and catalyzed the rise of barbarous behavior among our youth. With each passing generation, the antisocial conduct problems within our population grows more devastating to America.

Without a voting citizenry guided by strong moral values, based upon ubiquitous religious influences, individual freedom inexorably devolves into licentiousness and social chaos and repression.

The increasingly powerful measures imposed by government to control its population’s escalating social pathologies then destroys the remaining personal freedoms in the name of their preservation.

When the religious/spiritual energy that originally gave rise to a flourishing society is governmentally persecuted and suppressed, or is weakened by other natural causes, historically the socioculture  falls into decline.

This reality hints at the “T”  among the main principles of Conservatism. I will soon blog more about this critical component of conservatism that made America Great: Traditional Values.

V. Thomas Mawhinney, 10/30/15

P.S. The dastardly lie which is “Separation of Church and State”, has been perpetrated upon America by secular/progressive forces. This documented in numerous historical resources.  The following is only one of them. There is more to come on this topic later.

The Nature of American Conservatism #3

This series of blogs is based upon William Bennett and John Cribb’s new book, America the Strong: Conservative Ideas to Spark the Next Generation.

They suggest that the key features of Conservatism are easily remembered using the acronym “FLINT”. This word stands for:

F=Free Enterprise

L=Limited Government

I=Individual Liberty

N=National Defense

T=Traditional Values

As Bennett and Cribbs describe “L”, Limited Government, does not suggest that conservatives are opposed to government, rather they are against government that “wastes money” and “runs poorly”. They quote Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and his ideal of a government that is: “of the people, by the people, for the people” (Kindle Loc. 900).

The following are several quotes from this chapter that will better explain the conservative’s conception of what “Limited Government” should look like.

___________________________________________________

“President Ronald Reagan put it this way in his farewell address to the nation in 1989”: ‘Ours was the first revolution in the history of mankind that truly reversed the course of government, and with three little words: “We the People.” “We the People” tell the government what to do; it doesn’t tell us. “We the People” are the driver; the government is the car. And we decide where it should go, and by what route, and how fast. Almost all the world’s constitutions are documents in which governments tell the people what their privileges are. Our Constitution is a document in which “We the People” tell the government what it is allowed to do (Kindle Loc. 911).

_____________________________________________________

“If government’s power is unrestricted, it will naturally grow and control more of people’s lives. According to Thomas Jefferson, ‘The natural progression of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground’.”

“Abraham Lincoln left us with a good description of limited government. He wrote, ‘The legitimate object of government is to do for the community of people whatever they need to have done but cannot do at all, or cannot so well do for themselves in their separate and individual capacities. In all that the people can individually do as well for themselves, government ought not to interfere’.” (Kindle Loc. 935)

_______________________________________________________

Bennett and Cribb describe how both Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson thought that our Founder’s ideal of limited government was no longer workable and the size and scope of the federal government needed to grow.  In the 1930’s President Franklin D. Roosevelt used the Great Depression as an excuse to further expand the federal government’s powers. He called this expansion of federal government agencies actions, and tax expenditures “The New Deal”.

President Lyndon Johnson, in the 1960’s, used his conception of the “Great Society” to attack poverty and racial discrimination. Again, the number of the federal government’s agencies grew dramatically as did America’s tax expenditures to correct America’s social ills.

More recently, President Barrack Obama has expanded the federal government’s control of state and local politics as well as citizen’s lives in ways that have “transformed”, as Obama stated he would do, into something that America’s founding Fathers would be outraged to see: An unrelenting evolution to an increasingly socialistic, all-controlling federal government.

Please see the following which identifies the top ten, of a great many more,  of Obama’s most abusive executive actions.

Abusive to what?

Abusive to “L”: Individual Liberty for Americans!—-Which will he the topic of my next blog.

For a deeper understanding of the nature and scope of Obama’s abuses of power, please consider reading the more extensive article appearing at the end of this first one. It is entitled: An Executive Unbound: The Obama Administration Unilateral Actions.

The Nature of American Conservatism #2

My following series will be based upon William Bennett and John Cribb’s new book, America the Strong: Conservative Ideas to Spark the Next Generation.

The key features of Conservatism are easily remembered using the acronym “FLINT”. This word stands for:

F=Free Enterprise

L=Limited Government

I=Individual Liberty

N=National Defense

T=Traditional Values

Bennett and Cribb define Free Enterprise as “an economic system in which property, resources, and industry are controlled by individuals and businesses to make profits. Another name for free enterprise is capitalism, although free enterprise is in many ways a more accurate term since the freedom to conduct business is one of its bedrock principles” (Kindle Loc. 476) .

The authors maintain that free enterprise, though it can have its problems, has been proven through history to be superior to every other kind of economy. They argue that:

“In free markets, companies have to compete against each other for profits. That competition encourages businesses to offer the best possible products and services for the lowest cost. That puts a higher standard of living within more people’s reach. Opportunity unleashes the creativity of inventors and entrepreneurs. That creativity drives civilization forward, from steamboats to airplanes to cell phones” (Kindle Loc. 483).

Bennett and Cribb discuss some of the problems with free enterprise, noting that there are economic up and down-turns. Also,  jobs can be lost due to competition and new products and services replacing older ones. Some call such economic upheavals  a form of  “creative destruction” in the market place. They also identify more problems that need to be managed effectively by government to keep the competition, with unavoidable “winners and losers”, as fair as possible.

They argue that in spite of its difficulties, free enterprise has dramatically benefited more people than any other economic system in the history of the world.

It is interesting to note that at this very moment countless millions (trillions?) of people around the world are watching baseball and football, rooting for their favorite teams and thrilling at the amazing athletic talents on constant display in these great spectacles.  Is it not obvious that competition yields the best outcomes in sports. What would removing competition for for positions on the world’s sports teams do to the quality of all sporting events?

The answer is obvious.

Do we not see that competition is at the heart of every aspect of human existence? It is so in education, all of the professions, all of the trades, all of the arts, all of our religions and within politics.

Some may argue that we need to learn to cooperate…and we do! Groups of individuals come together and they cooperate to compete with other groups. Political action groups are naturally are where there is the individual liberty to do so. They often form where there is no such liberty. Observe how they form coalitions of political action groups that compete with other coalitions of political action groups.

Some may think that competition is lessened in socialistic or communistic or otherwise dictatorial regimes. This is commonly true for those who become disenfranchised and demotivated by repressive governments and governing classes of leaders. But observe that competition for power and control among the members of the governing classes often becomes brutal, even lethal in nature.

Competition is woven into the DNA of all living things. Darwin called this ubiquitous force among living things, “Natural Selection”.

Life-forms that, for any reason, fail to compete are doomed.

This fact-of-life is no less a fact-of-life when it comes to the viability and survival  of all of the world’s nations and their sociocultures.

It is essential that all Americans know which economic system damn-near killed America before it was born (communism) and which one nourished it during its prenatal stage of development (free enterprise). It is essential that all of America’s children and youth learn the following:

V. Thomas Mawhinney,  10/22/15

P.S., Reality will set you free, but first it can make you miserable!

This is especially true of modern liberals (so-called progressives), socialists and communists, whose purposefully deceitful or blind denial of natural superiority of  conservative principles is a special form of human psychopathology.

The Nature of American Conservatism #1

I once blogged a series on the definition of American Libertarianism, paraphrasing the descriptions presented by authoritative spokes-persons about this political philosophy.

Please review this series of blogs by going to my main blog page, upper right-hand side and entering “Libertarian” in the search box.

I concluded that the libertarian position would be the saving-grace of America, were it not for its liberal (more accurately Libertine) position on the laws and values that should guide America into the future. Specifically, I will deplore the legalization of recreational drugs (alcohol is both good and bad enough), and also the legalization of prostitution (let us encourage women to aspire to  higher callings). Both of these possible “liberalizations” of Americas social and moral values will create a host of social problems that are antithetical to America’s greatest times in history. They are also incompatible with the most powerful political philosophy of all those available: Conservatism.

It is essential that America teach this social/psychological/economic/national defense and political philosophy to our children. It is also critical that we adults refresh our own memories as to the true nature of conservatism and be able to articulate it to our families and peers.

My following series will be based upon William Bennett and John Cribb’s new book, America the Strong: Conservative Ideas to Spark the Next Generation.

Their book is an easy-reading, concise and powerful set of arguments for America’s return to the principles that have made us great. It is no less a strong indictment of progressive-liberalism, the political philosophy that now threatens our very existence. The assertions in this book are very well referenced and historically documented.

The book begins by providing us with a handy acronym to use as an aid to recalling the main philosophical features of conservationism: “FLINT

FLINT is presented as a memorable acronym because it is the very substance used to spark the gun powder in the flint-lock rifles our Minutemen used to fight and win our Revolutionary War.

The keys features of Conservatism (FLINT), are as follows:

F=Free Enterprise

L=Limited Government

I=Individual Liberty

N=National Defense

T=Traditional Values

If you will memorize these essential components of American Conservatism, it will be my pleasure to paraphrase some of the important details of each of these features, as presented by Bennett and Cribb.

I will start this process in the next several days.

More importantly, I strongly encourage you to read Bennett and Cribb’s important book and to purchase copies of it to give to your loved ones. Christmas, 2015 is coming soon.

Also, please recommend America the Strong to your friends and acquaintances.

Sanctuary Cities “Explode”; 9295 Illegal Alien Prisoners Released!

October 13, 2015

Sanctuary Cities “Explode”; 9295 Illegal Alien Prisoners Released!

Help me with the logic of the Obama dynasty’s actions on immigration.

Are 340 American cities are above our Federal Laws while protecting illegal alien immigrants? No.

Are America’s Churches above Federal Law sheltering and protecting illegal alien immigrants? No.

Were Illegal alien prisoners really good people who broke no law other than breaking into America. No.

Were they actually criminals who broke our laws, often repeatedly, many being violent and involved in illegal drug trafficking. Yes.

So what could possibly explain this amazingly self-destructive political, social, and cultural phenomenon? All perpetrated upon America by President Obama!

This behavioral pattern is clearly maladaptive, even suicidal, for our historically number-one world-class Nation.  Any fool can see this. But fools vote and they appear to be increasing rapidly in proportion within our population.

Lets inspect the short-term consequences of this action for America’s many organizations.

  • Liberal/progressive/socialist politicians gain voters to continue their political domination.
  • Businesses gain a flood of cheap labor.
  • Churches, particularly the Catholic Church, gain parishioners.
  • Social services must increase their physical properties, administrations, personnel and budgets.
  • Same for Hospitals, other medical services and personnel.
  • Same for Law Enforcement.
  • Same for the Legal Profession
  • Same for The Judiciary.
  • Same for Prisons.
  • Same for mental health services.
  • Same for Schools
  • Same for all branches of government.

I could go on. But you get the idea.

I trust that you did not overlook where the list started and where it ends. It starts and ends with the growth of America’s government!

If you understand this, you are examining a self-reinforcing culturally destructive (negative) feed-back system . I call this complex lattice of vertically and horizontally self-reinforcing system-of-stressors an example of  Higher-Order Bad Behavioral Contagion.

As various highly stressed sociocultural organizations fail to provide needed services to citizens; as citizens are increasingly taxed to pay for failing services; as the economy fails (as it must); as population “diversity” leads to more political and personal strife between subcultures; and as the cycle of increasing stresses fall upon individual citizens alone or within families, Primary Bad Behavioral Contagion is in evidence. This refers to the effects of damaging stressors that occur between individuals, as opposed to organizations and agencies.

I have tried to alert my readers to many of the interacting causes of these sick social/cultural self-feeding destructive cycle in past blogs.

But, there is yet another factor recently suggested to me that further catalyzes these self-destructive chains of events in America.

The sustained inability of America’s Congress to function effectively, even though conservatives are in the majority, presents yet another major factor within this destructive swirl of damages to our socioculture.

Traditionally in America, the voting population could determine the balance of political power (liberal or conservative). Liberals in Congress tended to vote liberal and conservatives tended to vote conservative. In this day, however, various sources of big money contributions to congressmen (I.e., Crony Capitalism) have over-powered the effectiveness of the citizen vote.

As explained recently by Rush Limbaugh, “political insiders” in Washington now constitute a powerful “third party” system of progressive/socialists in both of our traditional parties. The power of big money available to politicians has neutralized the citizen’s determining votes and has paralyzed the traditional democratic Congressional process.

In doing so, the traditional  balance of power between the Executive and Congressional branches of government has also been destroyed.

This is the “perfect existential storm” for America.

Systems of short-sighted money and power rewards for corrupt politicians are now wedded with a socialist-Marxist President who is bent on the destruction of America’s preeminence and power in the world and its transformation into a socialist state.

The following is only one recent symptom of a very complex ongoing Obama assault upon our traditional American values, traditions and culture.

The selfish short-term interests of many of Americas voters, systems and organizations are simpatico with our ruthless President’s socialist-Marxist goals.

Wake-Up America!

Damn-Fool America: Going To Pot!

October 7, 2015

Damn-Fool America: Going To Pot!

I recently attended a workshop for psychologists and other therapists. The workshop was not specifically about the effects of drugs, but the discussion  happened upon the matter of marijuana use by clients and various States legalizing marijuana for recreational use.

I expressed my disapproval of the legalization of pot and my position was not popular. I do not care.

The reasons for my grave concern are that legalized pot is increasingly trafficked to nearby states, traffic violations and accidents involving pot are increasing, there have been deaths to adults and children stoned on pot, and much more. I also pointed out that contrary to common belief, marijuana can be very addictive.

The leader of the workshop stated that pot is psychologically addictive, but it was not physiologically addictive. I politely informed this person that this was an older finding, but contemporary research has concluded that pot can be highly addictive to many. This is especially true of the pot containing higher levels of THC, now refined and extracted from the marijuana plant and more commonly for sale in States where it is legalized.

Of course elementary principles of economics are involved. As with any other business, competition leads to increased quantities and qualities of the particular commodity that is for sale. Supply and demand principles absolutely apply.

Of course, this is no different for pot sales…particularly when legalized and produced by large technological business enterprises.

Another overlooked fact is that our governments, at all levels, (once guardians of America’s population’s physical, mental, and behavioral health) are now in the business of addicting its citizens in order to make money. These governmentally “peddled” addictions are to activities and substances that our more conservative and traditional governments, for very good reasons,  once called “vices” and outlawed.

This governmental practice started in the 1960’s with the legalization of pornography. It continued later with the legalization of Gambling. Now we are seeing the beginnings of the legalization of marijuana. We can expect more the same, including other drugs as well as prostitution.

All of this nets the Governments (local, state and federal), massive new sources of tax revenues. Once this process starts, businesses, municipalities and states are forced to market these “products” or lose revenues to those who are nearby that do. The mantra is “why should we let them take our potential customers and money when we can keep it all at home“!

In this way unregulated capitalism in vice spreads through America like wild-fire. Once “the genie is out of the bottle”, it is near impossible to put it back in. Everyone, at all levels, becomes financially addicted to the addictions.

It is interesting that governments are now increasingly bankrupt at the same time they are shamelessly and abusively foraging for ways to wring increased tax revenues from its businesses and citizens.

You should also note that governments are shamelessly foraging for ways to save money. America’s legalization of abortion and its increasing legalization (state by state), of the harvesting and selling of aborted body parts and the growth  of assisted suicide are prime examples of short-term cost savings. The long-term consequences will be the destruction of our socioculture.

I have digressed slightly, so you might see and understand the sociocultural consequences of supporting America’s modern unprincipled and predatory progressive/Marxist governments. Our governments propagandizes their addictive population-traps as “true freedom for its citizens“, when inf fact it is the purposeful addiction and enslavement of Americans to our greatest biological, psychological, and social weaknesses.

Please think about all of this.

My wonderful parents always taught me to tell the truth, even if it would get me in trouble. Believe me. Or, show me the evidence that I am wrong.

I hope you will educate yourselves to the new research-based reality of the damages of marijuana consumption.

A nation of pot-heads, combined with alcohol and other illegal drugs, will spell a terrible disaster for America.

See for yourself!

America Is Going To Pot #3

Recently, I stumbled across a heart-felt appeal to friends on Facebook by someone I love, against legalizing marijuana in America.

Predictably, this dear lady was attacked by someone who bragged about living in a State where marijuana was legal. He called her ignorant and  insulted her intelligence and judgment in various ways. He did while bragging about being “legally stoned”.

The stoned guy asserted, predictably, that “pot” (a sweet and soft euphemism for a dangerous drug) caused harm to no one and did no harm to children.

I invited this pot-head to my blog to read some information that would refute his position. Predictably, he launched an insulting attack upon me and stated that he had no interest in ever visiting my blog.

It is a good rule-of-thumb to avoid logical debate with someone who is drunk on alcohol, or stoned on some other drug.

When will I ever learn?!

Anyway, if you are not drunk or stoned, I do hope you will take some time to read and consider my thoughts on this matter.

And to my dear-one who is courageously swimming against the sociocultural tide of America’s self-destruction: I am very proud of you! Praise the Lord and pass the verbal ammunition to the un-stoned!

Here is some more ammunition for you, and for others who will join the fight to save our socioculture.

Wake-Up America!

Iran Nuclear Deal: Death To Infidels!

October 4, 2015

Iran Nuclear Deal: Death To Infidels!

The average American has no idea about the horrific future that our government has brought to the point of near-certainty with its recent Iranian Nuclear Deal.

This matter is very complex and it cannot be presented in a single pithy sound-bite. Therefore the “low-information” segment of our population will remain ignorant of its tragic deferred consequences.

Our progressive/socialist/Islamic internal and external enemies know this well.

The great weakness in America’s Constitutional Republic is that this growing low-information segment of our population votes from a position of ignorance and their personal quest for immediate gratification through governmental largess.

Please take a few minutes to understand that with this Iranian deal in place, the blackest time in modern world history is poised to repeat itself. Then, send this video to everyone you know.

Dennis Prager will bring you up-to-speed on this massively important national mistake. A mistake that must be corrected as a result of America’s up-coming elections.

Vote true-conservative and remonstrate this matter with your current representatives.

“I’m 70+ and Tired”

“I’m 70+ and Tired”

Well, dear reader, again I have found something that I cannot top with my own words. So I will blog it in its original form.

The following was sent to me by a friend who is married with grown kids, now out and on their own. He and his wife are both successful professionals by virtue of their very hard, honest and diligent work. They and their children are great people and they continue to build their lives and to strengthen America through the fruits of their labors and outstanding citizenship.

In the next 20 years or so they will be in my shoes and those of the unknown author of the piece that follows.

I hope things will change for the better for them and my loved ones, but I fear they will not.

Maybe you are with us in these hopes and fears.

If you are, you could have written what follows.

Thanks to Joe Grunert for sending this to me. The author of the following Cyberspace Flotsam is unknown.

V. Tom Mawhiney, 10/3/15

“I’m 70+ and Tired”

I’m 70+. I’ve worked hard since I was 17.

Except for some serious health challenges, I put in 50-hour weeks, and didn’t call in sick in nearly 40 years. I made a reasonable salary, but I didn’t inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am.

Given the economy, it looks as though retirement was a bad idea, and I’m tired. Very tired. I’m tired of being told that I have to “spread the wealth” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

I’m tired of being told that Islam is a “Religion of Peace,” when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family “honor”; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren’t “believers”; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for “adultery”; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur’an and Shari’a law tells them to. I’m tired of being told that out of “tolerance for other cultures” we must let Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in Australia, New Zealand, UK, America and Canada, while no one from these countries are allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia or any other Arab country to teach love and tolerance.

I’m tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. I’m tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses or stick a needle in their arm while they tried to fight it off?

I’m tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of all parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught.

I’m tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor. I’m really tired of people who don’t take responsibility for their lives and actions. I’m tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems. I’m also tired and fed up with seeing young men and women in their teens and early 20’s be-deck them selves in tattoos and face studs, thereby making themselves un-employable and claiming money from the Government.

Yes, I’m damn tired. But I’m also glad to be 70+. Because, mostly, I’m not going to have to see the world these people are making. I’m just sorry for my grandchildren and their children. Thank God I’m on the way out and not on the way in. There is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on!

I’m 70+ and I’m tired.

Will Liberals Let Us Institutionalize The Dangerously Mentally Ill? No.

October 2, 2015

Will Liberals Let Us Institutionalize The Dangerously Mentally Ill?   No.

Well, there has been another mass killing in America. It makes me want to vomit.

I do not know if this guy was an Islamic Terrorist, or a severely mentally ill killer on the loose. Someone has reported that he had ties to a white supremacist group, though the logical connection from there to this tragic college shooting episode is yet unexplained.

Whatever is the case, predictably, Obama immediately blamed guns. Of course it is essential for him to do so because a comprehensive and intelligent analysis of the many real and interacting causes of America’s tragic decline into behavioral chaos will go straight to his own liberal/progressive ideology. An ideology that has made steady growth in America over the past decades and has finally culminated in his own Presidential Marxist regime, as well as our present bloated and corrupted system of government.

The result of this spiritual/political/psychological/sociological spiral-of- death is  modern America: A stunningly diminished and grotesque shadow of its former self.

If you have read my other blogs on America’s decline, you will know exactly what I am referring to. I have now written over 1200 articles on this and other related concerns.

Please enter any search term that might be associated with Mass Murder, America’s Decline, Socialists, Progressives, etc., and see the truth…as best I can know it.

God’s Blessings to you and your loved ones. Please vote and remonstrate with your political  representatives accordingly.

Now, please see this related blog, published on 9/20/13, below.

The following was written by Ann Coulter.

There’s been another mass shooting by a crazy person, and liberals still refuse to consider institutionalizing the dangerous mentally ill.   The man who shot up the Washington Navy Yard on Monday, Aaron Alexis, heard voices speaking to him through the walls. He thought people were following him. He believed microwave ovens were sending vibrations through his body. There are also reports that Alexis believed the Obamacare exchanges were ready to go.

Anyone see any bright red flags of paranoid schizophrenia? (Either that, or Obama’s NSA is way better than we thought!)   But Alexis couldn’t be institutionalized because the left has officially certified the mentally ill as “victims,” and once you’re a victim, all that matters is that you not be “stigmatized.”
But here’s the problem: Coddling the mentally ill isn’t even helping the mentally ill. Ask the sisters of crazy homeless woman “Billie Boggs” how grateful they were to the ACLU for keeping Boggs living on the streets of New York City. Ask the parents of Aaron Alexis, James Holmes (Aurora, Colo., movie theater shooter), Jared Loughner (Tucson, Ariz., mall shooter) or Seung-Hui Cho (Virginia Tech shooter) how happy they are that their sons weren’t institutionalized.

Tellingly, throughout the last three decades, the overall homicide rate has been in free fall, thanks to Republican crime policies, from 10 per 100,000 in 1980 to 4 per 100,000 today. (You might even call them “common sense” crime policies.) But the number of mass shootings has skyrocketed from 4 per year, between 1900 and 1970, to 29 per year since then.   Something seems to have gone horribly wrong right around 1970. What could it be? Was it the introduction of bell-bottoms?

That date happens to correlate precisely with when the country began throwing the mentally ill out of institutions in 1969. Your memory of there not being as many mass murders a few decades ago is correct. Your memory of there not being as many homeless people a few decades ago is also correct.   But liberals won’t allow the dangerous mentally ill to be committed to institutions against their will. (The threat of commitment is very persuasive in getting disturbed individuals to take their medicine.) Something in liberals’ genetic makeup compels them to attack civilization, for example, by defending the right of dangerous psychotics to refuse treatment and then representing them in court after they commit murder.  Liberals won’t even agree to take the most basic steps to prevent psychotics from purchasing guns — yes, GUNS! — because to allow the release of mental health information would be “stigmatizing.” We’re not talking about anorexic girls here. We just need shrinks to tell us if potential gun purchasers are paranoid schizophrenics.

The disastrous consequences of the deinstitutionalization movement is described in E. Fuller Torrey’s book, “The Insanity Offense: How America’s Failure to Treat the Seriously Mentally Ill Endangers Its Citizens.” Torrey’s book reads like a compendium of America’s most heinous murders since the early ’70s — all of which could have been stopped with involuntary commitment laws, and none of which could have been stopped even with a complete gun ban.   Here are a few:   — “Mary Maloney had decapitated her infant daughter and year-old son. Her husband had tried to have her psychiatrically hospitalized prior to the crime, but she had not met the (legal) criteria for dangerousness.” — “Charles Soper had killed his wife, three children, and himself two weeks after being discharged from Camarillo State Hospital because he failed to qualify as ‘imminently dangerous.’” — “In April 1973… Edmund Kemper (who had been released from a mental hospital a few years earlier when the deinstitutionalization act became law) had been arrested after he bludgeoned his mother to death, then strangled her friend who came to visit. Kemper was also charged with the murders of six female hitchhikers.” Kemper had originally been institutionalized after murdering his grandparents at age 15 because “he tired of their company.”

In 1972 and 1973, paranoid schizophrenic Herb Mullin went on a killing spree in California that left 13 dead, including a 72-year-old World War I veteran, a college coed, four teenaged campers and a mother with her two little boys, murdered as they played with marbles.   Mullin killed his victims with a baseball bat, knives, his fists, as well as with guns. How’s your “high-capacity” magazine ban going to stop that, Democrats? How would piling on yet more gun control laws have helped the priest whom Herb Mullin beat, kicked and stabbed to death?   What about the elderly boarders that Dorothea Puente — diagnosed with schizophrenia — poisoned and buried in her backyard?   What additional gun restrictions would have helped the group of bicyclists Linda Scates intentionally drove her car into because voices were telling her to “kill the demons”?

In the decades since the deinstitutionalization movement began, more and more people kept being killed as a result of that movement — including the deinstitutionalized themselves. According to Torrey, between 1970 and 2004, the mentally ill were responsible for at least 4,700 murders in California.   Increasing government spending on mental health programs is not going to stop the mentally ill from committing murder. Like liberals, these are people too sick even to know they need help. As Herschel Hardin, whose son was schizophrenic, wrote in the Vancouver Sun: “If you think you are Jesus Christ or an avenging angel, you are not likely to agree that you need to go to the hospital.”   Liberals will pretend to have missed the news that the Washington Navy Yard shooter was a paranoid schizophrenic. They refuse to acknowledge that the mass murder problem — as well as the homeless problem — only began after crazy people were thrown out of institutions in the 1970s. They tell us crapping in your pants on a New York City sidewalk is a “civil right.” They say that haranguing passersby on the street about your persecution by various movie stars is a form of “free speech.”   Only after a mass murder committed by a psychotic with a firearm do liberals spring to life and suggest a solution: Take away everyone’s guns.   Taking guns away from the mentally stable only makes us less safe: Even psychotics know enough to keep choosing “Gun-Free Zones” for their mass murders.

If Americans are serious about preventing massacres like the ones at the Washington Navy Yard, Newtown, Tucson, Aurora and Virginia Tech, it’s time to review our civil commitment laws.

After this latest shooting, will the left finally let us do something about the dangerously mentally ill?
