Teacher Intimidated By Supervisors Over View On Common Core

Teacher Intimidated By Supervisors Over View On Common Core

Please view a courageous teacher’s testimony to the Missouri Senate Education Committee about the damage wreaked upon her school and her students by Common Core. She also testifies that administrators and other teachers have used threats and bullying tactics in an effort to coerce her into going-along with her school’s Common Core program.

Common Core is Federally coerced Nation-Wide “transformation” of the American Education System. It is yet another example of our Federal Government’s encroachment upon State Autonomy.

Wake-Up America!

Our Federal Government is intensifying its ability to shape socialistic and secular thoughts and beliefs in our children.

See their coercive methods in the following:

Common Core: Pushing Education Down-Hill

Common Core: Pushing Education Down-Hill

On 3/21/14, I published a blog about the threat to States Rights in Education that is the privately conceived curriculum of Common Core. Common Core represents a coercive take-over of the education of the majority of American children by our Federal Government.

If you have not seen my former blog  on Common Core, I urge you to review it before continuing to consider the present one.

https://culturalsurvivalskills.wordpress.com/2014/03/21/common-core-america-you-are-in-terrible-trouble/

Among the many problems with Common Core, it insists that students be taught strange and overly complicated ways to solve math problems. In addition, it is lowering the school standards for mathematics claiming that higher math skills are not needed for securing a job in the work-place upon graduation from high school.

See an example of Common Core mathematics requirements and a mathematically skilled parent’s response to his child’s assignment below.

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/03/24/youve-just-got-to-see-what-a-frustrated-parent-wrote-on-their-childs-common-core-math-assignment/

For another sad perspective, see the following letter of resignation (with further justification) from an experienced kindergarten teacher who has concluded that Common Core has destroyed her ability to teach her children effectively. The teacher states that increasingly frequent data training, testing, and conferences about student behavior problems is making it impossible for her to teach her children effectively.

She further asserts that Common Core is making impossible demands upon her students causing them increasing levels of frustration, feelings of failure and behavior problems.

Please review the following and see what you think.

“No Child Left Behind”: Pushing Public Education Further Down-Hill.

March 29, 2014

“No Child Left Behind”: Pushing Public Education Further Down-Hill.

Everywhere you look bureaucracy is rapidly transforming America from  local, regional, and State control of human events to Federalized, inefficient, one-size-fits-all mandates calling for: New standards, assessments or testing, computer record keeping that diverts professional time away from those to be served, stifling quality controls, incapacitating regulations and other impediments to individualized quality services.

This is now, and always has been, the way that progressive/socialist, big government, bureaucrats operate. It is through top-down governance rule-making, financial/material rewards for compliance and loss of same for non-compliance (or far worse in some totalitarian regimes).

The Federal take-over of public education was completed long ago. But the Federal control of America’s educational system was significantly increased just over a decade ago, by a Republican.  President George Bush, initiated the “No Child Left Behind” (NCLB) program in America’s schools. It was passed by Congress in 2001 and then signed into law by the President in 2002.

The NCLB has too many layers of complexity that to be fully be explained here. But, its main features included a mandate that all schools funded by Title 1, Federal money meet yearly standards of progress in quality.

Each State was to set its own educational standards, against which students would be tested annually. Based upon this state-wide testing, the progress of students and their individual schools would be evaluated by the Federal Government.

Schools were then required to make annual progress in educating their students.  Any schools that did not improve after two years of assessments were labeled ” In Need Of Improvement”.  Students then were allowed to transfer to better schools in their area. Schools that failed to improve by the third year were required to provide free tutoring to lagging students.

Schools that failed to improve in the fourth year of assessments were designated as “Needing Corrective Action”. This action could include firing the teaching staff.

Failing to improve in the fifth year would require the school to plan for an entire restructuring of the school.

If a school failed to improve in its sixth year of assessment it could be closed, transformed into a charter school, privatized, or taken over by the State Board of Education and run directly by them.

As you can see, by the fourth year professional heads could start to roll. This of course, revealed the weaknesses in this Federally mandated approach. Some criticisms of NCLB are as follows:

  • The Federal Government does not have a Constitutional Authority to control States Educational Systems to this extent.
  • Federal controls are draconian in that if the State conforms to Federal requirements is will receive large amounts of money, if it does not, the money is taken away, or withheld.
  • States constructed their own educational standards. The incentives for States were to set standards lower in order to not place their school systems at risk for closure. Research has demonstrated that differences among State’s educational performance were largely a result of differences in the stringency of their standards.
  • Teachers were motivated to “teach to the test”, thereby narrowing the focus of their teaching to increase the likelihood of increased student test scores. This resulted in a unassessed, though very real, dumbing-down of  participating educational systems.
  • Schools that were making steady and significant progress, but that did not meet absolute standards, were labeled  as failing.
  • Teachers have protested that NCLB has resulted in less time spent teaching children and more time being trained in mandated extra record keeping, more time spent  testing, with less freedom to teach as effectively as they once did.

I have based my synopsis of NCLB on a Wikipedia article on this topic. There you will find more complexity to this Federally mandated program and more criticisms as well.

Please see tomorrow’s post on our Federal Governments new, even greater, intrusion into  America’s State Educational Systems.

Few understand this new, even more destructive, Federal Government mandate to  American Education. Stay tuned for a primer on another educational step-in-the-wrong direction: “Common Core”!

America is Nuts: School Expels Good Samaritan!

March 28, 2014

America is Nuts: School Expels Good Samaritan!

When a culture punishes removes the teaching of virtuous behavior from its schools it is moving down the road to its decline.

When a culture allows the punishment of virtuous behavior in schools, it is accelerating rapidly to its end.

You must see the following to appreciate what it is that I am referring to.  You must know that this is only the tip of  the iceberg, so to speak.

The following quote is taken from Benjamin Franklin’s book: Poor Richard’s Almanac.

“No longer virtuous no longer free; is a Maxim as true with regard to a private person as a Common-Wealth.” (Kindle Loc. 594).

“Separation of Church and State”, taken to its current ridiculous extremes gets us this and much worse, as we so clearly can observe without bias.

You must see the following:

America Is Nuts!

America Is Nuts!

This description of someone; a group of someones; and yes even, an entire socioculture as being NUTS is a harsh pejorative sometimes wrongly pointed at those who would benefit most from kind and supportive assistance. In my professional work with individuals and families, I would consider the use of this term to be demeaning and unprofessional.

On the other-hand, it can be a wonderful American slang-invective, used as a vehement  denunciation or censure of general behavior patterns that destroy all that is precious and irreplaceable.

This is my intended use of this insulting term as I apply it to stupid, self-defeating, self-destructive, and suicidal, perceptions, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors that now typify America.

America’s psychological functioning is clearly incoherent, confused and stunningly conflicted. I could use a bunch of technological “psychobable” (as many would  it call). Or, I can say it like it is:

America Is Nuts!

How else would you like to describe the following?

  • Politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000.00 a plate campaign fund-raising events.
  • People claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General and roughly 20% of the federal workforce is black while only 14% of the population is black; 40+% of all federal entitlements goes to black Americans — 3X the rate that go to whites, 5X the rate that go to Hispanics!
  • Two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner (the head of the Treasury Department) and Charles Rangel (who once ran the Ways and Means Committee), BOTH turned out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.
  • We make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege, while  we discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just ‘magically’ become American citizens.
  • The people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country’s Constitution are  thought of as “extremists.
  • We demand that people present a driver’s license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.
  • People demand the government investigate whether oil companies are “gouging the public” because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. Oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).
  • The government collects more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spends a Trillion dollars more than it has per year —for total spending of around $7-Million PER MINUTE, and then complains that it doesn’t have nearly enough money.
  • Only in America could the rich people —who pay 86% of all income taxes — be accused of not paying their “fair share” by people who don’t pay any income taxes at all.

America Is Nuts!

P.S.  America is still the greatest Nation and Culture on earth. Don’t get me wrong! But, America cannot contiue to be so if  “WeThe People” do not manage it more effectively.

The bulleted information above is based upon one of those Emails that travel through cyberspace with no authorship identified. I have “plagiarized” most of this, making small changes, and have fashioned it to my own purposes. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the statistics that are reported, however, the examples of each absurdity listed are certainly as true as they are absurd.

Common Core: America You Are In Terrible Trouble

Common Core: America You Are In Terrible Trouble

Tonight I am writing about ways to improve this nation’s education of our children and youth. I have been researching this area that I have not thought much about for many years.

Now, having focused my reading in this area, I am stunned and appalled at the massive incursions that the Federal Government has made into what, according to Constitutional Law, is supposed to be the exclusive province of States, communities and parents.

Governors generally appoint State Education Boards and communities generally elect their local Boards of Education. You may think that the community Boards of Education have a great say in the curricula and other workings of local schools, but they do not. They must follow the mandates of the appointed State Boards.

The Federal Government has made millions of dollars of available to States that adopt the Federal universal Common Core curriculum, testing, and  an exhaustive data collection system which gathers very personal information about students and their families. These data are then funneled to the Federal Government to use as it sees fit.

In the light of recent Federal NSA and IRS abuses of citizens, this is a prelude to unimaginable control and persecution of American citizens.

The Common Core curriculum is educationally regressive, even by today’s shameful standards. Common Core’s mandated goals are specifically designed to accommodate the market place and its mandated teaching methods are often unwieldy and, in some cases,  they are frankly bizarre.

The Federal Government is fearfully well-advanced in terminating State,  local and parental sovereignty in the matter of educating their own children. Furthermore, through cash awards (or threatened penalties) the Federal Government is imposing draconian Common Core data collection mandates and forcing States to help usurp parent’s and families 1st Amendment rights to privacy.

On the  matter of progressive and tyrannical Federal advancements into our educational system, I have personally been asleep in the wheelhouse, and so have most Americans.

I regret to admit that I am deeply shaken at our American Constitutional Republic’s debilitated and near-death condition. Perhaps the most successful way to peacefully destroy any socioculture is to gain control of its children.

I implore you to educate yourselves about the Federalized control of America’s educational systems though the imposition of Common Core on all of our children.

For most, our remedial self-study about the imposition of Federalized uniform education on America will take some time and effort. But this work, along with very powerful political resistance to Common Core, is essential to the survival of our way of life.

Please study the following:

Rabbi Gives Practical Advice To America: Beware of “Fairness” and “Equality”!

Rabbi Gives Practical Advice To America: Beware of “Fairness and “Equality”!

I have had Jews as friends while I was growing-up, my father had Jewish friends, I have had clients who are Jews, and I have done business with Jews.

These relationships have all been very fine ones and I deeply respect the Jewish Faith as-well-as their traditions.

I am a strong supporter of Israel, so long as it continues to remain on the side of moral superiority and freedom for its people.

The Rabbi that you will meet in this video has some interesting lessons to teach all Americans. I hope you will take some time to listen to a very learned man of God who brings us great practical advice about preserving our historical way of life.

The video I hope you will view is in a small window at the bottom of this short article (it can be enlarged) . The irritating advertisement preceding this video is  over quickly…thankfully.

Modern Welfare: Differential Reinforcement of Dependent Behavior

March 20, 2014

Modern Welfare: Differential Reinforcement of Dependent Behavior

As a practicing psychologist I commonly encounter clients who are on various welfare programs. Many, not all, are certain to remain on welfare for a very long time…even a life-time.

Many need this support, some could get schooling and eventually work (but most just talk about it), a few are blatantly scamming the welfare system and working tax payers.

When any society gives people significant amounts of money and other material benefits for doing nothing, the Laws and Principles of Psychology dictate that increasing proportions of the population will become dependent upon such hand-outs. In more technical terms if you provide individuals with positive reinforcement contingent upon doing nothing, they will learn to do nothing…other than engage in frivolous forms of self-stimulation and become dependent upon governmental “non-contingent” reinforcement.

You may wish to see an earlier blog that I did on this topic: “Don’t Feed the Animals: It Will Make Them Dependent”.  https://culturalsurvivalskills.wordpress.com/2014/01/23/dont-feed-the-animals-it-will-make-them-dependent/

A recent report by the Cato Institute has demonstrated, that in many states, those who receive full welfare benefits will actually make more than those working for minimum wage. Even for those who do not make more than those who work, the additional hassles and costs (child care, clothes, transportation, and inconvenience), make it likely that they will choose to remain on welfare and not go to work.

The 1996 work-requirements that became a part of America’s welfare system has generally become increasingly lenient with many exemptions now available. The results of this administrative back-sliding are perfectly predictable.

Psychology’s Law of Effect states that consequences control behavior…What more do you need to know?

The following Cato Institute article is short and clear. I hope you will read it  and it on to others.
